ICL-Produced Mural Wins Industry Award

ICL Imaging is proud to announce that a mural produced for the Worcester Art Museum by ICL is the recipient of a Certificate of Excellence from the 2007 American Inhouse Design Awards, sponsored by Graphic Design USA Magazine. The award recognizes the combined efforts of the Worcester Art Museum and its vendors for the production (fabrication) of a large outdoor mural for the Worcester Art Museum, representing a premier piece of artwork from its permanent collection.

Working in conjunction with Sunshine Sign Co., Accurate Graphics Corp., and the design team at the Museum, ICL Imaging had several unique challenges to overcome with this large scale printing project, not the least of which was working with a design incorporating a painting measuring 66cm x 58.4 cm and enlarging it accurately to fit within an outdoor area measuring 15 ft. x 8 ft. “Ensuring that the color, tone, and definition remained true to the original piece of artwork was our primary concern. Sally is an important piece of the Museum’s collection that is instantly recognizable to many people, so it was important to replicate it authentically,” says Vito Tulimiero, ICL’s Account Manager in charge of the project.
The custom-designed arch-shaped frame for the mural reflected the unique architectural design of the building allowing it to hang flush with the Museum’s Lancaster Street entryway. “One of the Museum’s goals is to provide art for all, to put an important piece of our collection outside for all to see so that everyone can experience the Museum’s collection. ICL Imaging worked with us over a four-month period to ensure that every detail was addressed, and the result was an outdoor piece that is truly worthy of its award,” says Kim Noonan, Publications Manager of the Worcester Art Museum.

“The piece looks great. Our client was happy with the result, and in the end, we all won recognition for it. All in all, I’d call that a very successful and fulfilling project,” says Tulimiero.
